What makes us different

Most designers start with the look. I start with the layout — because a beautiful room on a broken plan will never feel truly right.

European sensibility meets Adelaide living. Timeless over trendy — every single time. Spaces you'll love in ten years, not just ten minutes.

Full service

From first sketch to final reveal — concept, materials, project management, custom joinery. I stay with you the whole way.

Extension & Renovation · Compact Living Done Right

Compact Extension Reimagined

A rear extension that added a bedroom, study nook and bathroom — all within a tight footprint. The brief was clear: no wasted space, no compromises on liveability.

Every centimetre was considered — from the positioning of the study nook to capture the afternoon light, to the bathroom layout that feels generous despite its compact size. The extension connects seamlessly with the existing home, as though it was always meant to be there. The result is a home that feels complete, comfortable and full of afternoon light.

Open-Plan Transformation

Embracing Openness

The client requested a design with an emphasis on creating more openness, with an extra large kitchen as the focal point. To achieve this, we knocked down a few walls that created unnecessary nooks and walkways. We incorporated a strut window that opens outwards to the verandah, seamlessly connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces.

A smaller entrance fitted with tailored storage cabinetry was recreated to privatise one side of the house wing, guiding the flow directly towards the kitchen and dining area — also creating a more private and cosy lounge area. The lounge, now discreetly hidden behind a newly extended wall, creates a sense of separation while maintaining the overall open feel. Upon entry, you are immediately drawn to the heart of the home — the kitchen and dining space.

We also took the opportunity to shift the master bedroom wall, creating a desk nook in the heart of the living space, and giving the master the necessary extra room to allow for a new wardrobe space. To maintain the open concept, we used wall panelling to cleverly conceal the master bedroom door, ensuring a seamless flow throughout the space.

Ensuite · White Elegance Master

White Elegance Ensuite

Sometimes a bathroom just needs to be completely reimagined. The gold-framed shower screen and pink walls had to go. In their place: a wall-to-wall floating vanity with an integrated sink, polished concrete-look flooring, frameless glass shower and clean white subway tiles throughout.

The result is a space that feels twice the size it actually is — calm, clean and quietly luxurious. No clutter, no fuss. Just good design.

Main Bathroom · 1970s Transformation

1970s Bathroom Transformed

This is exactly the kind of project I love — a 1970s bathroom that still had good bones, but had never been allowed to reach its potential. The original layout had the shower and vanity in the wrong positions, the space felt dark and cramped, and those patterned tiles were doing nobody any favours.

We swapped the shower and vanity positions to create better flow, added a skylight to flood the space with natural light, and installed a wall-to-wall mirror that makes the room feel twice as large. The wood-look tiles bring warmth, the white subway tiles keep it fresh, and the frameless glass shower keeps the space open. The footprint didn't change — the thinking did.

Compact Kitchen · Purple With Love

The Kitchen That Opens Up

This compact kitchen had all the hallmarks of an older Adelaide home — a heavy timber bar dividing the kitchen from dining, overhead cupboards making everything feel low and dark. We removed the bar, added floor-to-ceiling cupboards and a custom north-facing window. The bold purple accent wall was the client’s personality coming through — and why not? Not every home has to look the same.

Entrance Cabinet · Bespoke

Bespoke Entry Storage

American Rock Maple veneer chosen to match the existing bamboo flooring — the piece looks like it was always meant to be there. Integrated fireplace surround, open shelving and a bench seat with hidden storage below. Five years on, still in perfect condition and still drawing compliments.

Trusting the process

"Ingrid was fantastic to work with on our recent home renovation. She listened to our needs over multiple meetings to create a fantastic transformation utilising our current footprint. Functional, practical and aesthetically pleasing. We are so grateful for her expertise — multiple friends have already asked for her details."

— Kitchen & living transformation, Adelaide

"We had VillaChic create an entrance cabinet for us about five years ago. From the start, we were impressed by how beautifully it fit — it looks like it was always meant to be there. Five years on, the quality speaks for itself. A rare mix of design, craftsmanship, and durability."

About Ingrid

European sensibility.
Adelaide roots.

I'm Ingrid Soetermans, the designer and director behind VillaChic. With a European background and over five years working with Adelaide homeowners, I bring a perspective that is both international and deeply personal.

My approach always begins with layout. A beautifully styled room built on a flawed plan will never feel quite right — but a thoughtfully planned space, even simply finished, will always feel like home. I work closely with each client, listening carefully, asking the right questions, and designing spaces that reflect who you actually are — not a trend.

I work with a trusted network of Adelaide trades and builders, including a close partnership with Hire a Hubby Springfield, to bring designs from concept to completion seamlessly.
